The Reality of Local Search Testing
Most local SEO advice is recycled theory. We build our guides on operational reality. You read a blog post about a new Google Business Profile feature. You test it on a client site. Traffic tanks. We hate that cycle.
We created this testing protocol to separate the noise from the signal. We run real campaigns. We track real map pack movement. We publish what works.
How We Select Our Targets
We ignore the hype cycle. Software vendors pitch us daily. We delete most of those emails. We select tools and tactics based on actual agency friction.
If a citation builder claims to fix NAP inconsistency across 50 directories in 24 hours, we test it. If a review management platform promises higher review velocity without triggering Google filters, we put it in the queue. We only evaluate software and methods that directly impact proximity signals, relevance, or prominence.
We do not review tools just because they exist. We review them because they solve a specific bottleneck in local search.
Our Evaluation Metrics
We measure impact, not features. A beautiful dashboard means nothing if the tool cannot push a client from position six to the local 3-pack. We track specific, hard data points.
- Indexation speed. How fast do new citations actually appear in search results?
- Suspension risk. Does an automated Q&A posting tool trigger a soft suspension?
- Rank volatility. We monitor the map pack across a 5-mile radius using geogrid tracking.
- API reliability. We push data through the tool and verify it inside the GBP dashboard.
We look for blind spots. We intentionally break the software to see how customer support responds. We measure the actual time it takes to execute a task versus the vendor’s claims.
The 90-Day Rule
Local SEO requires patience. You cannot evaluate a citation strategy in a weekend. We apply a strict 90-day testing window for any ranking tactic or software suite.
Thirty days to establish a baseline. Thirty days to implement the variable. Thirty days to measure the fallout.
We run these tests on live, secondary properties. Real HVAC contractors. Real plumbers. Real dental clinics. We never test on primary client assets.
We absorb the risk.
You get the data. We document the exact steps, the exact timeline, and the exact ranking shifts.
What We Refuse to Cover
We draw hard lines. We refuse to cover tools that jeopardize your business. If a tactic relies on exploiting a temporary loophole, we skip it.
- Review gating software. Google explicitly forbids this. We will not help you risk a profile suspension.
- Click-through rate manipulation bots. These create artificial noise. They fail long-term. We ignore them.
- Generic SEO suites. If a tool lacks dedicated geogrid tracking or localized search volume metrics, it has no place here.
Limitations build trust.
The Evaluator
Tal Harel leads our testing protocol. He operates as an SEO and PPC Expert at Freelance SEO. He does not write theory. He manages live local campaigns daily.
He has recovered suspended profiles, untangled merged listings, and built citation networks from scratch. He knows the weight of a lost map pack ranking. He brings that operational friction to every review.
We read it. We tested it. We published it.
Keeping the Resolution High
The local search landscape shifts without warning. Google updates the core algorithm. GBP categories merge. Software pricing doubles.
We revisit our core reviews every six months. If a tool drops a key feature, we update the page. If a tactic stops working, we add a warning banner. We log the update date at the top of every guide.
You need accurate data to engineer your way into the local 3-pack. We provide it.
